Smart Choices Make a Difference

The International Delight^® transportation and logistics team reviewed all our suppliers and their distances from our current manufacturing facilities. To reduce the environmental impact of transporting supplies, the team chose a bottle cap supplier closer to our Mt. Crawford, Virginia plant. This one small change will save 157,652 transportation miles, or approximately 31,530 gallons of gas, for 18-wheel trucks each year.

We used to ship all those International Delight bottle caps in cardboard boxes. One team member came up with the idea to switch to reusable totes. Now these totes will carry caps to the plant, be folded up and sent back to the supplier for reuse. This is just another small change that eliminates the disposal of 279,720 cardboard cases a year while maintaining the integrity of the product. That's 793 trees that can continue the beautiful process of photosynthesis.

International Delight portion-control cups used to be shipped to our customers with multiple cardboard trays. Packaging engineers tested the product durability and discovered that it could be shipped and well-protected with less cardboard packaging. Removing the unnecessary tray in a portion of our shipments we will save 70 tons of cardboard a year.
