Home Brewing with a Press Pot (French Press) Part 1

For those of you who want to get the most flavor possible out of your coffee, I recommend a French Press.  While many people are intimidated by this brewing method, it is surprisingly simple and affordable.  There are many brands, sizes, and price ranges to choose from.  When picking out a size keep in mind that the brew that comes out of a press pot is much stronger than most drip coffee.  So if you usually drink half a pot of drip coffee, you may only need a cup of pressed coffee.  The reason for this is that instead of dripping through the coffee grounds, the water in a press pot is poured directly over the coffee and allowed to “steep” for 4-6 minutes.  This long term direct contact yields a very potent cup with lots of sediment in the the bottom and lots of oil on top.  Don’t worry, those are both good things.
